1916 Memorial Edition of Elbert Hubbard's "Little Journeys"

A set of eleven of the fourteen volumes of the memorial edition of Elbert Hubbard’s Little Journeys to the Homes of the Great (1916). Published a year after Hubbard (1856-1915), the founder of the Roycroft Arts and Crafts community, died on the RMS Lusitania, the copyright in these books reads only ‘By the Roycrofters, 1916’. Each volume is illustrated, bound in leather, and stamped with distinctive arts and crafts decorative motifs and typography. Included in this set are volumes II, III, V, VI, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, XIII, and XIV, respectively subtitled Famous Women, American Statesmen, English Authors, Eminent Artists, Great Philosophers, Great Reformers, Great Teachers, Great Businessmen, Great Scientists, Great Lovers, and Great Musicians. Included with these volumes are a pair of 1925 letters from the publishers and the Roycroft Shop recognizing the placement of an order and apologizing for delays in shipping.

Condition

These items have wear consistent with age and use. The leather bindings are significantly worn, with multiple spots of discoloration and small tears.
