A Chinoiserie style desk and companion chair by Karges Furniture Company. The black lacquered and gold gilt desk is comprised of an overhanging scalloped edge along three sides, three half size drawers with metal pulls and cabriole legs with appliqué gold gilt metal foliate detail. The drawer fronts and sides feature gold low-relief painted Asian landscape scenes. The center drawer is framed by appliqué gold gilt metal foliate detail. Marked to right drawer interior. Included with the desk is a companion chair with a black lacquer and gold gilt trim scalloped frame, cane backing, cabriole legs and curved stretchers. The seat is upholstered in cream with embroidered bees. Marked underneath.
