1787 Connecticut Copper Coin
Item Details
A 1787 Connecticut copper coin. Connecticut Coppers minted 1785-1788 display a massive variety of subtle changes. Based on the design for the British halfpenny, the varieties of these coins were cataloged by Henry Miller in The State Coinage of Connecticut, 1920. This particular coin is a Miller 37.1-cc.1, R-4, considered very scarce. The bust on the head of the coin is draped, facing left, and is the only coin type featuring this specific obverse die. This coin was originally in the Richard Picker Collection and includes the original envelope. Picker (1915-1983), from Albertson, New York was an avid collector of colonial coins.
