Nellie Meadows "Kentucky the Great State" Offset Lithograph
Item Details
A Nellie Meadows offset lithograph titled ‘Kentucky the Great State’, 1974. Meadows (1915-2006) won a contest in 1974 and this became the official painting of Kentucky’s bicentennial celebration in 1976. Born in Powell county, Nellie drew from what she knew in Clay City. This painting depicts a pastoral scene with horses and cardinals, the state tree of tulip poplar, and the state flower, the goldenrod. The mountains in the background highlight a Kentucky-shaped cloud. Double-matted in sage green and golden yellow, this print is set under glass in a gold-painted wooden frame with an embossed design. There is a wire hanger on the back.
