Framed Marie Laurencin "Mother and Child" Offset Lithograph

Item Details

A framed offset lithograph of Laurencin’s Mother and Child. The original was created in 1928 by one of the few female cubist painters, Marie Laurencin (1883–1956), rendered in her trademark style of soothing pastels and curvilinear forms. There is a printed signature on the lower right side, and the piece is set under glass with a wide, cream-colored matte in an antique gilt wood frame. Marie Laurencin was born in Paris, France and studied art at the Humbert Academy in Paris from 1903 to 1904. She became involved with the Cubist Movement through fellow student Georges Braque, and through him Pablo Picasso, who would soon found the movement known as cubism. Laurencin did some exhibitions with cubists but did not follow their ideology and developed her own form and style using a primarily pastel pallet.
