Antique Cast Iron Mantel Clock
Item Details
An antique mantel clock in a cast iron case. Similar clocks were produced by Nicholas Muller & Sons around the mid-1800s, although this clock is unmarked. The clock has a carved wooden back that screws into the iron casing. The bottom is open, exposing the clock movement. The movement is not visibly marked, other than numbers etched onto the case and gong, ‘403 22 9566’. The clock face is paper, covered by a hinged glass door. The bezel is stamped ‘Pat. May 10 1859’, in reference to dial patent by S.E. Root. The casing is painted black with faded, gold-toned detailing around the dial.
