Civil War Confederate Read Shell

Item Details

A Confederate manufactured Read bolt, pointed nose bourreleted ringed short pattern artillery shell, defused. Three inches in diameter, seven inches long, dimple and lathe dog in the base, the piece is a ‘Virginia’ pattern shell, having been introduced in the winter of 1862, likely would have had a wood or paper fuse cap. Excavated condition.
