Hand Painted Limoges Portraiture Tile

A French hand painted Limoges portraiture tile, circa 1876-1882. The hand painted tile features a three quarters profile portrait of a Medieval bride, with beautiful blue eyes, rosy cheeks and pink lips. She is dressed in a white linen habit with embroidered red foliate detail and a sheer lace along her hairline. She wears a red coat and has a cross pendant on a necklace draped around her neck. The Limoges tile is stamped to back ‘CFH’ in green. This is set in a late 19th century period wood carved frame with openwork foliate, egg and dart and beaded detail.
Condition
- no evident cracks. The back of the tile is darkened with dirt and possibly firing. Cracks to the wood frame and some paint loss.
