Antique Antler Handled Hunting Whip

Item Details

An antique, antler handled hunting whip. This whip features a carved deer antler handle with grooves scored on the underside to provide additional grip. This fox hunting essential can be used for opening gates in the chase without dismounting. The shaft is made of wood with a maroon varnish finish; the wood is not whippy. The keeper, known as an open keeper, is a leather loop attached to the rod with fine, tightly wound twine. This particular type of keeper is more commonly used by hunt servants on foot with the hounds.

Condition

The finish shows some light chips and scuffs.
