An antique McKenney & Hall hand tined lithograph titled Paddy Carr. Greek Interpreter, drawn, printed, and colored at L.T. Bowen’s Lithographic Establishment, entered according to act of Congress in the year 1838. Page 197 from History of the Indian tribes of North America, presented behind an off-white linen mat, under glass, in a simple burled veneer wood frame.

History of the Indian Tribes of North America is a collection of 125 images of lithographic and chromolithographic plates. Thomas Loraine McKenney (1785 – 1859) served as Commissioner of Indian Affairs from 1824 to 1830, and had portraits of Native American Chiefs commissioned for his Gallery in the War Department. He was intent on publishing and recording the history of vanishing North American Indians. James Hall (1793 – 1868) provided text for Native History of the Indian Tribes of North America, published in three volumes between 1838 and 1844.
