An antique hand-tinted engraving from a botanical reference book titled Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium by Maria Sibylla Marian (1647 – 1717), published in 1705. The print has been restored with little to no foxing and has been later hand tinted. This print is presented in a mat portfolio with an acetate window, awaiting your choice of presentation.
Maria Sibylla Marian was a German born botanical engraver, daughter of Matthaus Merian, a renowned illustrator. Marian was known for not only her beautiful engraving works, but also for gender breaking achievements. For more information, please see the link to the right.
