Japanese Style Tansu Step Chest

A Japanese style tansu step chest. Although the Tansu chest originated as traditional mobile storage cabinetry, the step chest or Kaidan-dansu was intended as a stationary adjunct to architecture, but movable if necessary. This vintage dark wood chest includes two upper drawers, a sliding panel for storage, and three lower drawers, with some edge hardware and base.

Condition

Wood is split in front of middle tier. Consistent with age and use.
