Japanese "Takito" Porcelain Lusterware Tea Service

A Japanese ‘Takito’ lusterware porcelain tea set. Tashiro Shoten Takito is one of several porcelain manufacturers renowned for lusterware porcelain in vibrant hues and classic eastern themes. This hand-painted tea service for six includes tea cups and saucers, tea plates, a teapot, covered sugar cube bowl and creamer. The service has sunny yellow and sage green glaze with a black pinstripe. Cherry blossoms and branches have been hand painted over the glaze. Inside the teacups is the iridescent luster finish that gives these wares their name. The set is stamped Hand Painted, Made in Japan with the overlapping double lozenge logo T T. This particular stamp dates the service to being made circa 1920s – 1930s.
