1950s "Lancaster County" Maple Table and Chairs Willett Furniture
Item Details
A solid maple ‘Lancaster County’ dining table with four chairs from the 1950s by Willett Furniture of Louisville, Kentucky. The table features a simple traditional round design that becomes oval when the additional leaf is added, and sits on turned legs. The table opens up to accept the 15’ leaf by means of a metal ring pull mechanism. The spindle back chairs have simple curved crest rails and turned arm supports, while the armchairs have curved hand rests. Turned stiles, legs and front stretchers add a decorative touch. There are two side chairs and two armchairs. The underside of the leaf is stamped with the Willett name and ‘Lancaster County’. Willett Furniture was in business from 1934 until 1962, and at one time was the largest manufacturer of cherry and maple furniture in the U.S. Willett was well-known for using quality hardwoods and for their wax based finishes. Each piece was sanded seven times and given five layers of a hand rubbed finish. Recent years have seen Willett Furniture being sought after by collectors, and prices have continued to rise. A matching washstand can be found under lot# 15CIN122-066 and a matching china hutch under lot# 15CIN122-001. This table comes with custom table pads.
