Ames Civil War era Musician's Sword

A Civil War era circa 1859 Ames model 1840 musician sword was intended for musicians and were ceremonial in purpose, being worn by the musicians during drill and formations. The sword could be used in a fight, but only as a weapon of last resort. Standard features include an all brass handle, grip gives the appearance of wire wrap but is integral with the handle, there is no guard, hilt is single branch. Manufactured by Ames Manufacturing Company, marked on the ricasso ‘Ames Mfg. Co. US JH 1859.’ Monogrammed ‘WGT’ on the handle.
Condition
The blade is heavily pitted, and with a good nick in the center, lightly tarnished on the handle.
