An original mixed media drawing/painting on panel by Louis Spiegel (1901 – 1975). The artist has painted one of his famous clown portraits on a piece of paper that’s been torn out of a hebrew newspaper. Louis Spiegel came to the United States in the early 1900s. He was known for his portraits of clowns, of which he said, ‘I don’t just paint the clown, I paint the soul.’ The painting is presented in a beautiful wooden frame with black and gold paint, and a canvas wrapped bevel to edge. Painting is signed to the bottom right hand corner and double signed on the verso with the year 1969.
Condition
Some minor wear, one somewhat sizable chip to the bottom right hand corner.
