Twelve Sections of Giambattista Nolli Map of Rome
Item Details
A wonderful piece featuring twelve sections of Giambattista Nolli’s (Italy, 1701-1756) maps of Rome in reproduction, framed using charcoal metal frames. Known simply as a ‘Nolli Map,’ these reproductions are presently hanging on the wall in the proper sequence and depict the architectural, cultural and religious developments of long ago. The map scale is 1:2900. Two more sections (unframed) of the map and a large pamphlet are present and they are housed within the original packaging. This map is the second edition published in 1991 by J.H. Aronson Highmount, New York. Please note: the maps need to be removed from the wall mount system and the mounting system is not included with the maps as it is attached to the wall. Giambattista Nolli, Italian architect and surveyor, began this survey project in 1736 at the request of Pope Benedict XIV and the finished engraved product was printed on twelve sheets, originally measuring 69′ × 82′. The Pope used this map and all areas displayed as a way to distinguish the fourteen districts of Rome which still exists today.
