An original pencil drawing by Joe Palooka cartoonist, Ham Fisher. The piece was a Christmas gift featuring Fisher’s depiction of a forgetful Santa Claus and reads, ‘Gracious Sakes – I F’Got Where She Lives.’ The inscription under the character, also by Fisher, reads, ‘A very extra espeshul gorgiss chrismus to Helen Louise Richards an also very espeshul we’re sure to a elegint lady what’s name is Helen Lamaze from Joe Palooka and Ham Fisher. Kisses XXXX from George by Request.’ The cartoon is on paper with ‘The New Park Ave., 125 East 58 St., New York, New York’ printed to the bottom left and dates to about 1937. The paper is mounted on cardboard which is mounted to a frame backing. The piece is in a wood frame under glass that is contained in a wood framed shadowbox. Fisher’s Joe Palooka newspaper comic strip was very popular in the 1930s and was adapted to comic books and several films that were produced through the 1950s.

- toning consistent with age. The frames have only minor blemishes. The paper backing to the cartoon frame was partially removed for inspection during cataloging.
