Artisan Cherokee Kokopelli Kachina Doll By Billy Whitewolf
Item Details
This artisan Cherokee Kachina doll has been skillfully hand crafted by the Native American artist Billy Whitewolf. The doll is a stylized Cherokee version of the fertility diety Kokopelli, who presides over childbirth and farming. Kokopelli is also known to be a trickster, he is usually seen playing his flute showing the spirit of music. Billy Whitewolf’s vision of Kokopelli features a carved wooden head and headdress hand painted to resemble feathers. He is attired in animal fur accented with leather fringe, horsehair, brass cones, hair pipe chest piece with brass beads, and traditional Cherokee style bead work. He plays a hand carved wooden flute. At his feet lies a drum with drum stick painted with a Kokoplelli figure. Kokopelli is mounted on a wooden base. This Kachina is larger than the Kachinas usually seen, our offering stands about 25’ tall, and is artist signed on the bottom of the base.
