"Carryola" Hand-Cranked Record Player with Records
Item Details
A wonderful vintage hand-cranked phonograph, the ‘Carroyla’, by the Carryola Manufacturing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Manufactured circa 1926. Features a variable speed setting, a ‘brake’ to stop the spinning record, a hand crank, and of course an adjustable arm with a needle. Built into the lid is a sleeve holding sixteen vinyl records, mostly from the 1930s-1940s. There are also three more records, which wouldn’t fit in the sleeve. The exterior of the case has a carrying handle and two latches. The piece is in working condition at the time of cataloging, and at least some of the records are playable as well (EBTH was unable to systematically test every one, but those tested worked). EBTH does not warrant or guarantee its future condition.
Condition
- good condition for its age, some superficial damage to the exterior, especially the leather carrying handle.
