Antique Ladies Barrel Top Trunk

An antique ladies barrel top trunk (possibly 1880-90s.) This Victorian style trunk, sometimes called a Saratoga trunk or barrel stave top has wooden slats, with metal painted in rose and black, and beautifully ornate hardware. The inside is finished in rose, with the requisite Victorian style chromolithograph of women and children on the interior lid and hat compartment, both in fantastic condition. The lift out tray and trunk walls have been papered in a white and rose print. This type of trunk originally got its name from ladies needing large trunks to hold lots of clothing and hats for their trips to a popular resort town in Saratoga Springs, New York.

A little section of lining is beginning to tear.
