Jules Moigniez Bronze Eagle

Item Details

An astonishing 19th century bronze eagle title ‘Aigle Perche’ by Jules Moigniez (French 1835-1894). The nearly life size eagle appears ready for flight with one talon terrifyingly exposed, the other gripping a broken branch. The powerful bird of prey has it’s wings extended upright allowing the artist to show meticulous detailing to the feathers and also suggest movement. The bronze has fabulous deep patina and is mounted on a round dark green marble base. Jules Moigniez exhibited regularly at salons in Paris in the 1860’s but found his most receptive audience at the International Exhibition in London in 1862. Most of his bronze sculptures were cast by his father who took extra care in his son’s works and they are renown for their exceptional quality and attention to detail. Jules fell ill in 1869 and never fully recovered, ending a talented artist’s career much too soon.
