Late 19th Century Doctor's Cutter Sleigh

Item Details

A beautifully restored late 19th century doctor’s cutter sleigh. The sleigh has wonderful curving lines, with the sleigh’s body designed with a high front board where the curving front sleigh runners attach. The sleigh has a classic black vinyl-covered hood with brass fittings and is lined in a vivid crushed red velvet. The bench seat is upholstered in red velvet, also. There is a foot warmer stone on the gray-carpeted floor—the stone was placed in the pot belly stove and warmed up to make the doctor’s ride through the cold winter winds more comfortable. The sleigh was restored by Amish artisans in Milroy, Indiana. The sleigh is currently stored in a climate-controlled environment, and placed on a wooden wheeled platform which allows the sleigh to be easily moved. A wonderful piece with historic charm, ready to take to the snow-covered back roads this winter.
