Equestrian Poster for the 1984 Olympics
Item Details
A poster advertising the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, featuring a reproduction of a 1975 work by influential pop artist Roy Lichtenstein titled Red Horsemen. Stylized jockeys ride their horses in front of an abstract background of clashing lines. Lichtenstein’s work was influenced by the medium of comic strips, and this work features large exaggerated Ben-Day dots, a printing technique frequently used by pulp comics of the mid-20th century. The color palette also reflects the primary colors used in comic printing: yellow, magenta, cyan (here replaced by a deeper blue), and black. The piece is unframed, and printed on thick white card stock protected by transparent plastic wrap. The Olympic logo and ‘Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games’ appears in the lower left.
