Antique Wheeler & Wilson D9 Treadle Sewing Machine and Cabinet

An antique Wheeler and Wilson treadle D-9 sewing machine from the 19th century. This beautiful machine features an ornately carved wood cabinet with a fabulous ‘coffin top’ wood cover. The metal plaque has ‘Wheeler and Wilson Manufacturing Company, Bridgeport, Conn. USA D-9 2429196 August 18 1885’ engraved on it. The Wheeler & Wilson machines were the most popular in the middle 1800’s. The No. 9 machine was manufactured starting in 1887. It was advertised as ‘The Only Perfect Sewing Machine for Family Use’. The company was purchased by Singer in 1905, and they continued to manufacture the D-9 for many more years.
