A Vintage Working Duck Decoy with Che Carver's Initials "JW"
Item Details
A vintage working duck decoy with the carver’s initials ‘JW’ under the bill. The duck is roughly hewn with horizontal ridges in the wood and some wear to the paint. The duck has a green head, a white ring at the neck, a yellow bill, red breast and metal stud eyes. At the time decoys were made, the carvers were considered craftsmen. The perception however has changed and now decoys are now considered examples of American folk art largely due to the North American Wildlife Act and North American Migratory Bird Act passed in 1920 which limited hunting and banned commercial hunting of most species altogether.
Condition
The working decoy shows wear appropriate for the age and use.
