An original still life painting on stretched canvas illustrating a colorful bouquet of zinnias by Cincinnati-born artist Isabel Smith. The painting skillfully depicts the flowers in their vibrant hues, they are gathered in a bowl and encompass the entire composition. The dark background further enhances the colorful palette. The artist’s signature is in the lower left corner and the painting is presented in a fabulous gold tone frame that befits the canvas. Smith was born at Smith’s Landing near Cincinnati on Aug. 28, 1843. While studying art in Paris, she met painter Frederick Carl Smith and the two were married in 1895. The couple traveled extensively before returning to the United States where they lived in Washington, DC until 1917 when they moved to Pasadena, California. Isabel is known to have painted miniature portraits of many notables in Europe and the U.S., she was active as an artist until her death in 1938. Isabel Smith was a member of the Paris Women’s Art Club and the Pasadena Society of Artists.

Both the frame and the painting are in very good condition.
