Original Robert Mitford "Common Pintail" Engraving
Item Details
An original hand-colored copper plate etching attributable to well listed ornithological engraver Robert Mitford (19/20th century). This engraving is thought to have been made during the first quarter of the 19th century as signified by the marking at the top right-hand corner of the plate ‘PLATE XLIX.’ The print features a very delicately described likeness of a Common Pintail, the name printed alongside the image in a manner typical of ornithological prints of the time. The print is marvelously hand colored in a manner that is true to life and refinement. The print is beautifully presented in a sturdy wooden frame with double matting to edge.
Condition
- good, mats have gone wavy in the frame, possibility of slight mat burning, standard wear to frame edge in a typical manner.
