Original Hindenburg Postcard From 1936

A phenomenal piece of history is up for your consideration in this lot. An original photo postcard of the Hindenburg dated September 16, 1936. The front shows the Hindenburg landing. On the back of the postcard, it has two printed captions, in German; the top one means, Landing of the Hindenburg’, the caption at the bottom means, ‘photograph department of Luftschiffabu’ (this was the company that created the Hindenburg). The owner of this postcard sent it to Cincinnati from Germany. There are three large round stamps that say, ‘Lufts Chiff Hindenburg 16.9.36’. There are four 1936 postage stamps, one is the Olympic Stamp which is the first German football stamp (Americans call it soccer); a second stamp is that of the Hindenburg; the third and fourth stamps have the ‘swastika’ with hands in the Nazi salute pose. The frame is matted and glassed double sided so that one can see the front and the back of the postcard. The frame is wood with a bronze colored finish.

- the postcard has spider creases along the edges and a small amount of paper loss on the front in the grass area. Soiling, toning.
