Original Erte Serigraph with Gold Foil Stamping
Item Details
An original serigraph signed to the right-hand side just below center by well listed Art Deco design giant Erte, born Romain (Erte) De Tirtoff (1892 – 1990). This serigraph is appropriately titled ‘The Angel,’ and features an absolutely striking image wherein it would seem the very thunder clouds above can be seen emanating from the figural harp that this serene angel is plucking gingerly with her heavenly hands. The Art Deco aesthetic in this print is absolutely impossible to ignore. The dramatic contrast between the angel and the black ground on which she is placed is inescapable, the gradient in the clouds is patternistic and rhythmic. Erte was a designer of theater sets, jewelry, costumes, and perhaps most famously designed over 200 covers for Harper’s Bazaar magazine. He is one of the greatest polymaths of artistic endeavors to have lived during the 20th century. This print features luminescent gold foil stamping throughout the bottom half, which works to accentuate the candor and quality of this piece above and beyond. This incredible print is presented in an elaborately ornamental wooden frame with floral motifs in low relief, and a number of differently textured and colored types of gilts. The image features a single black mat to inner edge terminating in a gold bevel, the image is then floated on a peach colored mat.
