Ngoni Lute Body

Item Details

A Central or West African ngoni body, comprised of stretched leather over a wooden shell, with leather strings and wooden pegs; its neck is unfortunately missing. The worn leather is stretched and stitched tightly across the body, with one soundhole. Dates from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

Condition

- the leather has scuff marks and needs a light cleaning, the wooden body is deteriorating with much worm damage. The strings are tangled, as well.
