Original Carl Teibler Oil on Canvas Portraiture
Item Details
An original, and also notably very large, portraiture painting by very well listed Austrian history and portrait painter of 19th century notoriety Carl Teibler (1821 – 1895). He studied at the academy in Vienna famously under Carl Gsellhofer. His son Georg was also a well repudiated painter. This exquisite portraiture is signed to the lower right in orange, and is subsequently dated 1855. the date and the artist’s name together circled. Depicted in this incredible painting is a noblewoman of great and refined austerity. Visible on her hands and wrists are a pair, however different, of gold bejeweled bracelets, on her left-hand middle finger is a large gold ringer set with a large ruby colored gemstone. Strangely postured is she, holding a cooling fan as if it were an instrument of authority. She wears an extremely elegant maroon colored gown, embellished at the openings with lace. The furrows and folds of the fabric are lusciously depicted. This woman’s hair is also wonderous in quality, meticulously done up in antiquarian grandeur. The most interesting portion of this painting however is the woman’s expression; she looks rather disappointed. This incredible painting is presented in an exquisite gilt wood frame that’s been adorned with attractive elements of design in low relief around the edges.
Condition
- painting needs cleaned and has likely been retouched and or inpainted, the frame, particularly along the bottom edge exhibits wear, mostly that the gilt is chipping away.
