Boris Riab studied at several art schools in Moscow until his family fled Russia after the Bolshevik Party gained power. In 1927, he changed his last name from Riabouchinsky to Riab and settled in France. Riab mostly painted watercolors of hunting dog portraits and wild fowl, but he also printed limited edition engravings of several studies.

- some undulations to the sheets; scattered marks and graphite notations in the margins; some foxing; scattered creases; some edgewear; toning.
