Recognized as the leader of Fauvism, Henri Matisse rivaled Pablo Picasso in his groundbreaking style and his revolutionary artwork at the turn of the century. He studied at the Académie Julian and was a student of William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Gustave Moreau.
