An antique gold-filled bead necklace attributed to Elias Pelletreau. An American Colonial era goldsmith and silversmith, Elias Pelletreau has been featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum. Elias was a patriot, born in Southampton, Long Island, he served in the Suffolk county militia as a captain during the Revolutionary war. In New York City, he received tutelage from Simeon Soumain, a Huguenot-American silversmith known for his tableware. Provenance included with this necklace indicates this necklace was crafted for Gertrude Howell, wife of Captain Mortimer Howell sometime between 1795 and 1800.
