An original Cincinnati skyline painting, in oil on board, by Leo Murphy (1906-1980). The painting illustrates the early 20th skyline of Cincinnati using pastels and a palette knife to apply swaths of paint. The painting is signed in the lower right corner and was professionally finished in a deep gold frame by Closson’s.
Leo Murphy was born in Springfield, Ohio and studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy, where he eventually returned to teach. He was a WPA artist and became known for the murals he painted in Greenhills and around the city. He exhibited at the Cincinnati Art Museum and his work is found in many collections, both private and corporate.
