Brenner graduated with a degree in Drawing and Painting in 1978. She notes artists such as Wolf Kahn (German-American, 1927 – 2020) and Susan Sarback (American, 20th/21st century) to be major influencers of her work. In 2002, Brenner attended the Vermont Studio Center on scholarship. Her work uses a foundation of notan study, a Japanese technique for studying lights and darks, to represent mixed media landscape and abstract compositions.
