Hudson Mindell Kitchell, American (1862–1944) was an early 20th-century American artist known primarily for his luminescent and tonalist landscape oil paintings. He was a friend and associate of the famed American luminist painter Ralph Blakelock (1847-1919). Kitchell’s use of color and heavy impasto often led to his landscapes being mistakenly but very favorably compared to Blakelock’s in style and composition. Kitchell was prolific, traveling extensively to paint landscape scenes throughout the United States. The painting is housed in an ornate hand-carved & gilt wood frame. Provenance: Private Mt. Sterling, KY Collection.
