An impressionistic painting on paper by Cincinnati artist Arthur Louis Helwig (1899-1976). The painting depicts two figures in strong black outline with aggressive brushstrokes and a colorful palette. The painting is pencil signed by the artist in the lower right corner and was professionally finished in a gold frame by Closson’s using conservation glass.
Arthur Louis Helwig began his studies at the Cincinnati Art Academy under the tutelage of Herman Wessel and John Weis. He then went on to study in Paris with Fernand Leger, at Academies Julian, before he returned to teach at the Art Academy from 1929 to the 1970s.
