Gwen Doppler Stylized Floral Acrylic Painting "Striped Vase"

Item Details

Gwen Doppler (Cincinnati, Ohio, 20th / 21st century)
Striped Vase
Acrylic on Masonite
Signed to lower right

Gwen Doppler was born in Oak Park, Illinois. She started her art education as a teenager taking classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. She received her degree in Art from the University of Illinois in Champaign.

During the 1970s, after she had remarried, she was able to spend more time on her art. She and several other women shared a studio in Old Milford for over 10 years. Jack Meanwell, a well-known Canadian-born Cincinnati artist who taught at the Art Academy, would come occasionally to advise and critique their work.

Gwen painted into her 80s. Almost all of her work was done in acrylics on Masonite (hardboard). There are a few watercolor paintings, but she preferred the vibrant color and texture of the acrylic paints.
