Abstract Expressionist Leonardo Nierman is considered a leading figure of Mexican Modern art. He is known for his paintings that feature cosmic elemenst and fiery amorphous forms rendered with gestural strokes and radiant hues. After receiving his degrees in physics and mathematics at the National University of Mexico and performing as a lead violinist for Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the artist pursued an interest in the psychology of color, the cosmic phenomena, and the relationship between music and abstract art, all of which proved to be substanstial influences on his art work. Many of his monumental works can be found in public and private institutions internationally. Among the museums that have collected and exhibited his work are the Vatican; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Museum of Fine Art, Boston; the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City; and the Phoenix Art Museum, among others.
