Shows 44 prominent American authors including Washington Irving, William Cullen Bryant, James Fenimore Cooper, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Margaret Fuller, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Harriet Beecher Stowe. On the balcony in the ground stand statues of Shakespeare, Chaucer and Dante.

Condition

- cut down; heavy toning and some staining; finish and gesso losses to the frame.
