An original oil painting by Cincinnati born artist John Ward Dunsmore (1856-1945), dated in the lower right corner 1917. The painting beautifully illustrates gentlemen in pink coats, smoking pipes and preparing for the hunt with the hounds gathering on the front porch under the watchful eye of a youngster standing upon a chair for added height. The interior scene painstakingly details period furniture and depicts the men in casual poses. The painting is signed in the lower right corner and is finished in an antiqued gold frame.
John Ward Dunsmore was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended the famed McMicken School of Design before studying further in Paris at the Petite Ecole and exhibiting at the National Academy in 1879. He was known for his dutiful approach to accurately and realistically paint a scene.
