Frank Harmon Myers Original Oil Painting
Item Details
An original oil painting on canvas by Cincinnati artist Frank Harmon Myers (American 1899-1956), depicting a river scene from high atop a hillside. Ornate iron gates and strolling figures frame the composition in the foreground with a hillside in the distance and a meandering river making a bend to the right. Considering the artist’s affiliations with Cincinnati, Ohio, the scene very well may be the Ohio river with Mt. Adams as the hillside and the well-known steeple of the Immaculata Church at the top. The turquoise blue sky is dramatic with large billowing white clouds. The painting is signed in thr lower right and is beautifully presented in gold gilt frame. Frank H. Myers was born in Cleves, Ohio, then moved to Cincinnati where he studied at the Art Academy through 1920. In 1925, he married Ella Price and they traveled through Europe then later out west to Colorado and Santa Fe, where he met and painted with Henry Sharp. In his later years, he moved to California where he was active in the Carmel Art Association while he continued to paint in the Monterrey peninsula area with Donald Teague and others. Frank Myer’s work has been widely exhibited and is included in the permanent collections of many prestigious museums and institutions such as the National Museum of American Art, The University of Cincinnati, The Smithsonian Museum and the San Diego Museum of Art.
