Lohre’s “blob” paintings are created by melting 175 carefully selected colors of oil pastels onto a heated aluminum surface. Their execution is guided by a pixelated photograph in a manner similar to that which is carried out by the painting machine invented by Lohre using Lego’s Mindstorm Invention System in 2003. This method of painting claims to make the most of the least. Lohre attests to be the first to have ever painted a spaceship from life, as well as the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens.
