Angelo Asti, known for his portraits of young women, was born in Milan, Italy. With some training as a draftsman, he emigrated to the United States and found work in Cincinnati, Ohio as a designer in a lithography studio. In 1890, he returned to Europe in pursuit of a career as a painter. He settled in Paris and dedicated himself to his craft, focusing on figure painting and producing a number of works in the following decade. His work caught the attention of several commercial advertising groups, and throughout the first few decades of the 20th century his portraits appeared on postcards, trays, calendars, and other advertising products throughout England, the United States, and the Continent. Unfortunately, Asti died before he could see the commercial success of his work.
