Rudolf Tschudi was born in Schwanden Glarus, Switzerland in 1855. He trained in Switzerland, but established his art career in Cincinnati. Tschudi won the first prize at the Ohio Mechanics’ Institute not long after emigrating to the United States. He is known for portraits, still lifes, and most famously idyllic landscapes. Tschudi was an active member of the Cincinnati Art Club and a friend of Frank Duveneck. He remained in Cincinnati with his wife and children until his passing in 1923.
