Vint Blackburn was born in Salem, Illinois. As a young man he served in the Korean War, and then relocated to Santa Fe, California to start his life. Blackburn spent some time as a restauranteur, opening El Farol Restaurant with a friend. Once Blackburn and his wife welcomed a child into the family, he gave up his job and became a full-time artist, which provided more flexibility to raise their son. Though his preferred media were oil and adobe painting, Blackburn experimented continuously throughout his career, often inspired by the various locations his family lived in. Alongside his role as father and artist, Blackburn was also a collector and antique dealer.
