Paul Jenkins was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1923. As a teenager, he moved to Ohio and then joined the U.S. Naval Air Corps in WWII. On the G.I. Bill, Jenkins was able to relocate to New York City in 1948 where he attended the Arts Student League. Jenkins joined the ranks of Jackson Pollock and Barnett Newman in the Abstract Expressionist movement. He introduced a new approach to pour painting in which he would tilt the canvas to manipulate the paint flow. Jenkins’ work is held in public and private collections across the world.
