Ursula Brenner grew up in Germany surrounded by a rich cultural scene. She moved to Cincinnati and attended Edgecliff College, a women’s college later to merge with Xavier University. Brenner graduated with a degree in Drawing and Painting in 1978. She notes artists such as Wolf Kahn (German-American, 1927 – 2020) and Susan Sarback (American, 20th/21st century) to be major influencers of her work. In 2002, Brenner attended the Vermont Studio Center on scholarship. Her work uses a foundation of notan study, a Japanese technique for studying lights and darks, to represent mixed media landscape and abstract compositions. Brenner resides in Cincinnati with her work shown at the Pendleton Art Center, and represented by various galleries.
